It's a new year, and change is on the way...

The Humane Society ended 2006 by rescuing an emaciated dog and putting a face on to animal neglect here in the Midlands... we call him Rocky.  Now it's a new year, and change for both Rocky and for animal cruelty in our community is right around the corner...

Rocky...
Rocky has a cadre of veterinarians monitoring him, his own web site, and has enlisted Teoti Anderson of Pawsitive Results as a trainer.  And, as of this writing, he's packed on more than 10 lbs, putting him at just over 45 lbs.  Over the next six months, the Humane Society hopes to transform him into a physically and emotionally sound dog capable of being adopted to a loving home.  In the process, the Humane Society aims to transform the nature of animal cruelty as well.

Animal Cruelty...
Though animal cruelty is present in our community, it too must change.  The Humane Society's mission is not simply to reduce incidents of cruelty, but to end cruelty altogether.  2007 will mark a year in which the Humane Society will propose changes in legislation and will augment both its capacity and its workforce to ensure that animal cruelty has no place in our community.

April is animal cruelty awareness month, and we're gearing up for it now.  Both Rocky and the Humane Society need your support.  Recognize that animal cruelty is present in the Midlands and report it to the Humane Society (803.783.1267).  Pets like Rocky count on you as much as they do the Humane Society.

Thank you, and Happy New Year!
